When The Door Doesn’t Open

You really thought it was going to happen this time. Maybe it was a school, a job, a relationship, something you prayed about, felt peace about, and hoped for. But then… nothing. Or worse, the door closed, and now you’re sitting there wondering, Did I do something wrong? Wasn’t this supposed to work out?” I’ve been there too. And it’s a frustrating place to be. But I’m slowly learning that if we believe God opens doors, we also have to believe He knows when to close them. And not to hurt us, but to protect us, even when it doesn’t feel like protection. Maybe that thing would’ve distracted us, delayed us, or taken us off a path we didn’t even know we were meant to be on.

Revelation 3:7 says, “What He opens no one can shut, and what He shuts no one can open.” That verse reminds me that God isn’t random. He doesn’t slam doors just to test us, He closes them with intention, with love, with the bigger picture in mind.

The waiting, the confusion, it’s all hard. But God doesn’t waste it. If He shut a door, it’s not because He’s withholding something good. It’s because He’s leading you to something better, even if you can’t see it yet. So breathe. Rest. You don’t have to have it all figured out right now. He does. And when it feels uncertain, hold on to this:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5–6

Even closed doors are part of the path.
